Todd is thrilled to be a member of the CBLD team (Cooperative Board Leadership Development Program). He has served for three years as president of the board of Peoples Food Co-op in Portland, Oregon; and was instrumental in leading the board through the process of adopting Policy Governance.
He says, “It was an incredibly exciting time to come on to the board. We focused on the hard work of laying the groundwork, and then designing and implementing processes of accountability for our management and ourselves. Then we embarked on a strategic and intentional cycle of board study/ member linkage. It was a reinvention of our board into a governing body of highly effective servant leadership.”
Todd’s favorite aspects of being a board leader are connecting with the member owners, building a positive and productive relationship between directors and management, and the continued improvement of group dynamics and leadership skills. His previous experience (as a teacher, trainer, editor, and facilitator) has led to his current work of assisting boards and other board leaders in achieving excellence.
He is extremely excited by the potential of cooperatives to help create a vibrant, more equitable economy; and the role of our co-op boards to be leaders in this cultural conversation.
